A grief-stricken Premiership soccer star found his baby son dead in his sleep yesterday.
Sunderland's Jody Craddock and wife Shelley were "inconsolable" at their home after making the horrifying discovery in the early hours of the morning.
Four-month-old Jake, their only child, was discovered by his devastated parents at the family's large detached home in Peterlee, Co Durham.
The football club immediately issued a statement describing the deep sadness of the 27-year-old star and his wife.
A spokeswoman said: "Sunderland Football Club has been deeply saddened to learn the tragic news of the sudden cot death of Jody Craddock's four-month old son Jake early this morning.
"Sunderland has called off its reserve game at Birmingham this evening and cancelled training as a mark of respect to Jody Craddock and his family.
"Everyone at the club is shocked and saddened by Jody and Shelley's devastating loss and the thoughts and prayers of all players and staff are with the family.
