CROOK POLICE are urging caravan owners to take extra care after a spate of thefts in Weardale this summer. Touring caravans have been regularly targeted as thieves remove wheel clamps and towing hitches. Anyone who sees anything suspicious is asked to call the police on (01388) 762011.
FUN DAY: Cockfield Youth Group will hold a fun day at Cockfield Recreation Ground, near Bishop Auckland, on Saturday, September 7, from 10am to 4pm. Proceeds are for improvements to the ground and a skatepark for the village. It will include five-a-side football and a car boot sale. The charge to sellers is £5. CAR RAIDs: A Phillips car radio cassette player was stolen from a Peugeot 106 in Dene Side, Spennymoor, between 2am and 8.30am yesterday morning. A radio CD player was stolen from a blue Ford Fiesta in Jackson Street, Spennymoor, between 10pm on Sunday and 8.40am on Monday.
GIVE BLOOD: A blood donor session takes place tomorrow, at Teesdale Sports Centre, Barnard Castle, between 2pm and 7pm.
Truck STOP: An annual truck show will be held at Streatlam Farm, three miles from Barnard Castle on the A688, from Saturday to Monday. The cost is £5 for adults, concessions free. Camping facilities are available. For information, call (01833) 640492.
ROYAL DATE: An English Heritage event, Queen and Country, will be held at Barnard Castle on Saturday, August 31, and Sunday, September 1, from 10am, to mark the Queen's Golden Jubilee. There will be prizes for the best red, white and blue fancy dress. For details call (01833) 638212.
SOLO SHOW: Local artist Muriel Gritton holds an exhibition of her paintings in Witham Hall's Castle Gallery, Barnard Castle from Friday to next Wednesday.
OFF THE RAILS: Railways and Tramways is the title of an exhibition staged by the Gaunless Valley History Group, in Butterknowle, from 11am to 3pm, Saturday to Monday, in the community centre. For details call (01388) 662666.
ANNUAL EVENT: The annual flower and vegetable show will be held in Cotherstone village hall, from 2pm on Saturday, August 31. There will be homemade produce, photography, handicrafts, flower arranging and children's sections, plus teas and a raffle. The awards presentation will be followed by an auction of produce.
CHURCH FAIR: Holy Trinity Church fair takes place in Eggleston at 2pm on Saturday, and includes afternoons teas, stalls and a tombola.
VILLAGESHOW: Gainford's 45th annual horticultural show will be held at the school and scout HQ on Saturday, August 31, from 2.30pm. There will be plant stalls, teas, children's entertainment, raffles and a tombola.
