A FAMILY from Portsmouth is hoping that the people of Richmond will be able to help them to find a long-lost relative.
Keith Newman only found out he had an uncle on his mother's side recently.
She had always been loath to discuss her family's background as both she and her brother were born before their mother married which - although more common today - once carried a significant social stigma.
However, now her health has begun to fail, Margaret Newman is keen to see her brother, Anthony, again - for the first time in half a century.
"We know he is called Anthony Glenton and he was living in Richmond,'' said Mr Newman. "If he is still alive, he will be in his early 80s by now.
"We are not sure what he did for a living but his great-grandfather was a coachman who worked for Lord Zetland at Aske Hall."
Mrs Newman left Yorkshire during the Second World War, moving to Gloucester with the Women's Royal Auxillary Corps.
She met and married her husband while serving in the West Country and never returned north, losing touch with her brother as a result.
Anyone who may be able to help with the search for Mr Glenton is asked to telephone (01752) 403761.
