A MAN who terrorised a mother as she dropped her children off at school was jailed yesterday.
Harrogate magistrates heard how Brian Barrett took exception to cars dropping pupils at Oatlands School in the town and vented his anger on a mother and her two sons, aged eight and 13.
Peter Scott, prosecuting, said Barrett banged so hard on the window of Yvonne Nightingale's car she thought he would smash the glass and attack her and her children.
Mr Scott said she had tried to reverse away but had been unable to manoeuvre around Barrett. So she parked and locked all her doors.
Another mother came over to help her while little girls stood nearby looking terrified in an incident which lasted six minutes and which left one girl sobbing.
Mrs Nightingale later told the police: "He caused a lot of young people a lot of unnecessary fear and distress."
Police found Barrett in Beech Avenue and he flailed his arms as they tried to handcuff him.
As he was being put in the van he kicked PC Philip Jones in the chest.
Barrett pleaded guilty to threatening behaviour, provoking fear of violence and to assault on police. He was jailed for two months.
