THE body of a North Yorkshire soldier, who died of gunshot wounds while on peace-keeping duties in Afghan- istan, has been returned to the UK.
Corporal John Gregory, aged 30, of the Royal Logistic Corps, died near Kabul airport in what was described as "non-hostile" circumstances with no enemy involvement.
An investigation into the matter is under way and an inquest will be convened in this country in the near future.
The Army has not released further details of whereabouts in North Yorkshire Cpl Gregory was from, but has said that he left a widow. He was working with the bulk fuel detachment at the airport.
Another soldier who died was named yesterday as Sergeant Robert Busuttil, also 30, who was from Swansea, south Wales.
The two soldiers were part of a small contingent from the British Army in the International Security Assistance Force.
They were serving with the Allied Command Europe Mobile Force (Land), Combat Service Support Battalion, which is based at Bulford Camp, Wiltshire.
