STAFF at two Darlington supermarkets have helped raise a record amount of cash for their chosen charity.
Employees of Morrisons in North Road and Morton Park have raised almost £9,000 for Save the Children.
Nationally, the store has raised £467,297 for its charity of the year, beating the previous record of £418,000 for Childline.
Events this year included a national charity fun day and individual events such as bathing in a bath of beans.
Keith Rogers, general manager of Morrisons, in Morton Park, said: "I'd like to say a big thank you to everyone who helped to raise this fantastic total. We could never have raised so much without the hard work of the staff and the kind-hearted generosity of our shoppers."
Mike Aaronson, director general of Save the Children UK, said the money raised by Morrisons for Save the Children would support a wide variety of projects across the UK.
