A HOUSING developer is to provide a new drainage system in a Darlington street.
Persimmon Homes has asked Darlington Borough Council for permission to install a sewer on land at Bellburn Lane, where it is building homes.
There are 30 houses already on the site, but only eight are served by a soakaway drainage system - the rest rely on tankers to take water away from the sewers.
Persimmon Homes plans to build 119 houses on the site and has applied for permission to install a sewerage system to take all the waste and water away from the area automatically.
As well as building the sewers, Persimmon has offered to extend the sewer to the whole of Bellburn Lane,
Councillor Don Bristow said: "The company has said it will lay the sewers and maintain them until such time as the council decides to develop the rest of the area.
"This will undoubtedly increase the value of the land."
Yesterday, the council's cabinet agreed to allow Persimmon to carry out the work.
