SCARBOROUGH Building Society's headquarters on the outskirts of the resort could become a new headquarters on the coast for North Yorkshire County Council.
County Hall said it had 15 different offices and buildings in the Scarborough area and wanted to centralise them.
The building society, which is shortly to move to its new £8 million centre on the Seamer by-pass, has put its existing offices, Prospect House, in Scalby Road, on the market at £2.1 million.
A spokesman for NYCC said "We are looking at ways in which we can rationalise our accommodation which is not necessarily giving best value for money."
Prospect House was built 22 years ago and the building society, the oldest in England, has more than 200 staff employed in the complex.
