PLANS for a £25m national police training college in Harrogate have been revised following protests.
The Home Office scheme to replace an existing centre at Pannal Ash even drew criticism from the government's planning watchdog - the Commision for Architecture and the Built Environment.
They said designs for the multi-million pound project fell short of standards needed for the Prime Minister's Better Public Building Awards.
The original plans, which ran against 16 planning policies, also brought objections from the town's civic society and a number of local residents.
But following a meeting between Home Office officials and objectors, a less dominating scheme is being put forward. It is likely to be considered by planners in October.
The site is next to the upper reaches of Crimple Valley which is in a Special Landscape Area. The revised scheme aims to keep views across the valley as well as establishing a green corridor between nearby Brinklow Way and Yew Tree Close.
Harrogate Council planners cannot refuse the application because the Home Office has Crown immunity. But when the first scheme came under scrutiny, planners backed residents' concerns.
