AN elderly woman has been left shocked and feeling vulnerable after her handbag was stolen.
At 3.40pm on Tuesday, the 71-year-old pensioner was walking along Neasham Avenue, in Billingham, towards Low Grange Avenue, when a man on a bike approached her from behind.
He snatched her bag from her shoulder, causing her to fall to the ground. He then made off with the bag, which contained personal papers, over Billingham Campus School field towards Marsh House Avenue.
No money was taken in the attack as the woman was carrying her purse in her hand.
The man was 17 to 18 years old, tall wearing a light coloured top and cream baseball cap.
PC Maxine Patton said: "This elderly woman is feeling very vulnerable after the attack. Luckily she is not seriously hurt."
