A WOMAN at the centre of confrontation in a cemetery with a former mayor, spoke out last night.
Cleveland Police this week confirmed they are investigating an alleged altercation between Middlesbrough resident Joan McTigue and Councillor Pat Walker, who was the town's mayor last year.
The two women came face to face in Thorntree Cemetery at the weekend, soon after Mrs McTigue's call on the National Standards Board to investigate an overspend on the mayor's budget last year.
Mrs McTigue said: "I have simply asked them to investigate the question of the mayoral budget and how the overspend was not stopped. I have asked them to look into how it could have happened.
"I have never criticised Mrs Walker's expenses or Mr Walker's (husband, Coun Ken Walker) expenses to anybody.
"I have campaigned vigorously, along with many other people to overturn the system where councillors don't have to produce receipts when they claim expenses.''
