The Haswell Arts and Sports Festival will run over the August Bank Holiday weekend (August 23, 24, 25 and 26).

Integral to the festival is the 11th Haswell do, based at the Wayfarer in front street, Haswell, a weekend of folk music organised to support worthy causes. Everyone is welcome at the Wayfarer to join in this wonderful celebration of traditional music and there will be special hosts on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Sunday will also see a special event in the unveiling of the Memorial by the Lord Mayor in Mazine Terrace at 4.30pm. This will be adjacent to the UKSRA Harness Racing meeting (also in a field adjacent to Mazine Terrace). Bookies and refreshments will be available on site and there will be plenty to entertain the family between 1pm and 6pm.

Besides the full programme of horse races there will be children's Shetland racing. Local children will also be encouraged to participate in the making of a memorial banner to be displayed at the memorial later in the afternoon. Additional entertainment includes children's running races, a tug of war competition, and a chance to test your riding skills on the bucking bronco.

There will be an entrance charge for adults but children will be free.

The main event on Monday is the East Durham Ride and Drive Show at Haswell Plough (behind the Haswell Plough Pub). Kick off is at 10am with 37 classes generously sponsored by the local community. Again there is additional entertainment including a fancy dress competition at 11am and another chance to test your skills on El Tora the Rolls Royce Rodeo bull while music and drink at the Wayfarer every evening.

The festival acknowledges the support of Easington District Council.
