Champions Grangetown took a fifth minute lead when entertaining Redcar side Mackinlay Park, Michael Meggison adding to his hat trick from Saturdays win over Wolviston Reserves.
Five minutes later Ian McGowan who was also on target on Saturday made it 2-0, a minute before half Paul Cochrane made it 3-0. In the second half the visitors for whom this was their first match of the season were fell further behind when Meggison scored again. The visitors under a new manager pressed forward but in the last 15 minutes they were hit by a barrage of goals. McGowan secured a hat trick to make it 6-0 and six minutes later he scored his fourth of the game with Cochran snatching his second of the game to make it 8-0, in the last minute McGowan added his fifth to give his team a second consecutive win of the new season.
New Marske SC 2 v 2 Whitby Tn. Res
An end to end match at New Marske who entertained Whitby Town Reserves, Steve Whaley gave the home side a 15th minute lead with Jonathan Hole adding a second on the half hour mark, these two teams had contrasting fortunes on the opening day of the season, Whitby coming from behind to win at BEADS, while New Marske took the lead against Richmond, had their young keeper sent off and then went on to loose 4-2. In the second half a good talking from Whitby boss Jimmy Scott paid dividends when the player/manager scored to pull it back to 2-1 in the 57th minute. The match swung end to end but in the 80th minute the Whitby side snatched a goal and a share of the points when Graham Brewer scored to make it 2-2.
Stokesley SC 3 v 3 Wolviston Res
Home side Stokesley who lost against Thornaby on the opening day of the season, and were a little unfortunate, were under pressure for the opening quarter of an hour when entertaining Wolviston Reserves, and it came as no surprise when Ian Thompson score from close range to give the visitors, who lost at Grangetown on Saturday, the lead. Stokesley then got back into the game when a shot at goal by Scott Batey took a wicked deflection of a Wolviston player and wrong footed the Wolves keeper to land in the back of the net. The match was even for the remaining ten minutes and at half time it was still 1-1. In the second half the match was very even until on the hour the home side top goal scorer Jonathan Smith latched onto a defensive mistake to make it 2-1. Twelve minutes a poor clearance out of defence from a corner saw Andrew Clarke pull back to 2-2. Six minutes later Wolviston broke from defence quickly and took the lead through Steven Casey, but with five minutes later Smith fired home into the top right corner to secure a 3-3 draw and a share of the points.
Thornaby FC 1 v 0 Acklam SW
Thornaby Football Club made it two wins from two following their 2-0 win over Stokesley on Saturday, they gained a 1-0 win over Acklam Steelworks in a hard fought match, the only goal of the game came in the 25th minute when Michael Arif flicked the ball on for Neil Preston to score. In the second half Thornaby as I am sure they expected had a back to the wall defending with Acklam pushing forward for the equaliser, but new keeper Anthony Price who had a good game on his League debut last week was again in outstanding form and with the help of his team mates withstood all that was thrown at him to help secure his teams second consecutive win.
Division Two
B'ham Wndrs. 1 v 3 SMG Redstripes
Billingham Wanderers fell behind to visitor SMG Redstripes after only five minutes, when Steve White's looping shot beat the home keeper, SMG had won their opening game at Redcar against Teesside Athletic, but had to come from behind with two late goals. They went in at half time still 1-0 ahead in after a tight first half following the opening goal. In the second half the Billingham side pushed forward but they failed to make any impression on the match and in the 78th minute Stephen Hunter made it 2-0, Terry Pink then made a game of it by finding the back of the net for the Wanderers but with five minutes remaining SMG made the game safe and made it two out of two and lead the early season table of the second division.
Darlington SRM 1 v 3 Teesside Link
The opening half hour of the match was end to end and it was Teesside Link, who lost their opening match at Darlington RA, who took the lead through Paul Lambert. 1-0 remained the half time score. In the second half the home side pressed forward but on the hour Link broke clear and Lambert added his second of the game to give the Stockton side a 2-0 lead, but 12 minutes DSRM struck back to make it 2-1 when David Raine scored. The match now saw the home side going all out for the equaliser but with ten minutes remaining Link broke clear through Steve Hill who made the game safe at 3-1.
