AN extra week of schooling added up to a lot of fun for youngsters preparing to move to secondary school.
The 22 former pupils of Witton Gilbert, Edmondsley, Langley Park and Sacriston primary schools took part in a maths summer school at Fyndoune Community College, in Sacriston.
The youngsters are about to move to the college and the week was designed to improve their maths and introduce them to their new surroundings.
Co-ordinator Lynne Richardson said: "The children had brilliant fun. They have really enjoyed it."
The college's head of maths, Peter Atkinson, said the event was a first for the college.
"It sharpens their maths skills and it also helps them get to know staff, and other children and gets them used to the school,'' he said.
The children received attendance awards, certificates of achievement, geometry sets and gift vouchers, which were presented by Durham North Labour MP Kevan Jones, who lives in Sacriston.
