RESIDENTS whose lives are made a misery by unruly youths may soon have some peace if plans for a barrier are given the go-ahead.
For the past two years, people living in Marion Avenue, Eaglescliffe, Teesside, have put up with youngsters hurling abuse, damaging gardens and hedges, dropping litter and using the street as a BMX and skateboard track.
They are also concerned about gangs of youths that loiter around the nearby Tesco supermarket leaving shoppers feeling vulnerable. Following their concerns, Tesco put up a gate across a rear entrance to the store where youths often congregate.
However, because the manager did not seek planning approval before having the gate installed Stockton Borough Council told him he cannot lock the barrier.
The council has now received a retrospective planning application from the supermarket for the erection of a security fence and gate adjacent to Marion Avenue.
The application will be discussed at a forthcoming meeting.
