A TALENTED young rugby squad is celebrating after returning from a successful tour of South America.
The squad of 28 boys from Barnard Castle School, won all four of its full tour matches, and even defeated a club side during its travels.
The school put out its strongest team for a match against Argentinian side Jockey Club di Rosario, which had never before lost to a touring squad.
Barnard Castle sneaked home in a tense encounter, winning 18-16.
To complete their tour of Argentina and Chile the players took part in a 15-team tournament, and only lost one of their matches in the competition.
The rugby players were also joined by the school's girls' hockey squad, which despite struggling against tough opposition managed to improve its skills.
Teacher Martin Pepper said: "The girls found the going tough, but remained extremely positive, and having played against a number of Argentinian and Chilean international players, they now realise the standards they need to reach.
"I'm delighted with the way the boys performed, and it follows a successful season last autumn.
"The hospitality everyone received was excellent, as was the standard of the opposition play on the field."
