ONLY one place remains to be filled for the Chariots of Fire-style race around Durham's Palace Green.
There is already a line-up of seven invited athletes for the event, at midday on Monday.
One of the two wildcard places has been taken by Army runner John Davies, 24, whose fiancee works for organiser npower at Peterlee.
The competitors are Great Britain 1,500m runner James Thie, of Cardiff AC, English Schools 400m champion Craig Glanville and North-East 400m schools champion Chris Campbell, both from Gates-head Harriers AC, Durham Harrier Peter Coates, 34, the North-East Decathlon Champion, Steve Clifford, 18, and Shaun Moralee, 17. Another athlete with a Durham connection is Tom Curry, 21, president of Durham University's athletics union.
There is also a five kilometre family run at 10.45am, from Prebends Bridge, in aid of St Cuthbert's Hospice.
