AN annual show which has raised thousands of pounds for charities across North Yorkshire could be forced to fold - unless more pianists are found.
Since 1979, Northallerton Amateur Variety Company has staged a pantomime in the town, with more than £60,000 going to good causes.
But organisers fear that next year's production of Aladdin - to be staged at Hambleton Community Centre in January - may not be able to go ahead.
The group has no pianists, with one musician having retired, another in the process of moving house and another planning her wedding.
Secretary Maureen Willoughby said: "We have prided ourselves since 1979 on having a company which does give its services free so that we can assist local charities.
"We have provided bicycles for handicapped children to help them play out with their friends. But unless two or three volunteers come forward to help out with the piano playing, then it will all have to come to an end.
"I am sure there must be some people out there who would welcome the chance to be involved with a fun-loving group of friendly people. The music is not usually very difficult and we are a smashing group to work with."
