GARDENERS are expected to flock to an annual flower and vegetable show next month. Last year's Horden Parish Flower and Vegetable Show attracted 298 entries in 33 categories from 51 exhibitors. The show runs from 10am to 10pm on Friday, September 6, and from 10am to 2pm on Saturday, September 7.
THERAPY time: Durham's Clayport Library hosts a workshop on Monday, September 9, which gives visitors the chance to learn about aromatherapy, and practise giving and receiving a hand or foot massage. During the event, from 9.30am to 12.30pm, visitors will be able to make their own aromatherapy product to take home. For more information call 0191-386 4003.
RIVER SEARCH: Sunderland Coastguard, lifeboats and police units searched the River Wear around the Wearmouth Bridge, in Sunderland, after a person was reported to have jumped off the bridge and a body was reportedly seen underwater, just after 9pm on Friday. The search was called off when no one was found and no one was reported missing.
YACHT RESCUED: The Tynemouth lifeboat towed a yacht to its berth at the Royal Quays Marina after its engine failed at the entrance to the River Tyne, just before 3pm on Saturday.
ROAD Crash: Firefighters were called to Baring Street, in South Shields, just after midnight yesterday after a VW Golf collided with a Suzuki Viana which then collided with a stationary Nissan Primera. The driver of the Suzuki was taken to South Tyneside General Hospital for a precautionary check.
GARAGE FIRE: A Toyota land cruiser was destroyed and a single-storey garage and workshop in Mitre Place, Tyne Dock, was also damaged in a fire just before 8pm on Saturday.
craft afternoons: Following a lace-making weekend at Beamish Museum on Saturday and Sunday, visitors interested in lace making can attend demonstrations of the craft in the dentist's house at the museum, on Wednesday and Sunday afternoons.
Date change: The village outreach advice session due to be held by Durham Citizens Advice Bureau, at Brandon House, Brandon, today, has been moved to next Monday.
Donor sessions: Blood donor sessions will be held next Monday at Benton Methodist Church, Station Road, Forest Hall, Newcastle, from 11am to 12.30pm and from 2pm to 6.45pm, and at the Civic Hall, Regent Farm Road, Gosforth, between 10am and 4pm.
Power plan: Natural Power Ltd, of Manchester, is seeking planning permission from Durham City Council for a scheme to convert landfill gas into electricity at Marks Quarry, Leamside.
Canopy plan: Durham City Council is being asked to grant planning permission for a glazed canopy to be installed in the courtyard of St Chad's College, North Bailey, Durham
