STAFF from North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Trust have returned from providing medical assistance to athletes competing in the Commonwealth Games.
Orthopaedic consultant surgeon Cathy Lennox and physiotherapist Denise Jones were part of a voluntary team of health workers that was on hand throughout the championships in Manchester.
Dr Lennox was one of six medics who were on standby throughout the Commonwealth Sevens Rugby contest.
For the past 14 years, she has given free first aid to several rugby teams in Hartlepool and the surrounding areas.
Physiotherapist Ms Jones was among a team of volunteer pharmacists, dentists and doctors who treated sportsmen and women.
During her stay she treated athletes and helping out at training venues where she was on standby to help injured competitors, including badminton players and wrestlers.
She said: "It is hard work being a medical volunteer, but a real privilege to take part in such a memorable event.
