RACING legend Desert Orchid was among the equine stars on view at one of the big events in North Yorkshire's racing calendar over the bank holiday weekend.
Along with other big names from the turf, such as Jodami and Uncle Ernie, he was one of the highlights of the annual Malton Racing Association open day.
About 20 trainers from across Malton, Norton and the surrounding area opened their stables to visitors eager to take a closer look at the racing world.
Last year, the event had to be cancelled because of the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak and this year the organisers were hoping for a large turnout to make up for that disappointment.
This year, three new trainers were also taking part in the event. Mark Campion, Linda Stubbs and Brian Ellison have all set up in the area in the past two years.
"I think they must like the area and we do have very good gallops outside Malton," said Ted Carter, of the association.
Buses were laid on for the event and other highlights included the chance to watch horses being exercised in the equine pool at Tim Etherington's yard.
