AFTER being ill for the European championships, Richmond swimmer Joanne Jackson made up for it in the ASA age group nationals at Sheffield by winning four gold medals.

In the the 200m butterfly, where she was first in her heat with 2:19.2, she improved to 2:18.38 for first place in the final.

In her next race the 800m freestyle, Joanne finished with the fastest time in her age group, 8:55.89 for her second gold medal.

Next day was the 400m freestyle where, in spite of a personal best time in the heat of 4:24.48, she went into the final in second fastest position. To win the final Joanne had to swim a faster time still, 4:18.57, another PB and a new competition record. Joanne's final event was the 200m freestyle where she finished third in the heats in a PB time of 2:07.96, but after a close race she won her fourth gold in a new competition record of 2:03.73.

Janine Phillips, 12, another Richmond swimmer, was in the 200m breaststroke and achieved a PB of 3:01.77. Calum Clarke produced two PB times in the 100m freestyle and the 400m freestyle and Anthony Burke, 13, swam a PB in the 100m breaststroke to finish 23rd.
