YOUNGSTERS wanting to take part in a community sport project are being sidelined because of a lack of equipment.
The football scheme, at Burnside Resource Centre, Lanchester, near Stanley, County Durham, aims to keep youngsters out of trouble.
But so many boys and girls are turning up that they are struggling to cope.
Thomas Skelsey, 34, who set up the scheme, said: "We have 26 kids in two squads, but we only have enough equipment for one squad to train at a time. It is a shame because the kids are really keen. They have been brilliant."
The project is supported by the police who work on drug awareness with the youngsters. The centre is appealing for sponsorship to buy more kit. For further details, contact (01207) 283540.
