A BOOK looking at the history of a County Durham village - Memories of Sedgefield - goes on sale on Monday.
Sedgefield librarians asked readers to send them photographs to include in the book.
The response was so good that library staff had to sift through a mountain of photographs.
Librarian Judith Machin said: "We put up a notice in Sedgefield library asking local people to contribute - and we certainly weren't disappointed.
"The book contains nearly 50 pictures, dating from about 1900 to the present day, so people might be able to spot themselves in some of them, especially the school photographs."
The pictures include First World War wedding parties, WRVS tree planting in 1997, village street scenes, 1950s' bus trips, the famous Shrove Tuesday ball game and Sedgefield Junior School pupils in 1962.
There is also a potted history of the village from the 10th Century and a description of the origins of Sedgefield Market.
Memories of Sedgefield is part of a series of Memories books published by County Durham Books at £2.95 and is available at local libraries and bookshops.
