THE organisers of the Reeth Show yesterday declared that it was good to be back after last year's event fell prey to foot-and-mouth restrictions.
Treasurer Steve Charlton estimated that 5,000 people had visited, thanks partly to the warm, dry weather.
Sheep classes were limited to local animals but judges said the standard of entries was every bit as good as usual.
Geoff Marwood, of Barningham, carried off both championship and reserve in the Swaledale section, along with several class firsts.
Secretary Betty Harker said entries in other classes were reasonably strong, but local gardeners had failed to support the produce classes in great numbers.
Main ring attractions included the Jez Avery mountain bike display team and an eagle and vulture show. Reeth brass band provided music.
The afternoon rounded off with the traditional fell races, with classes for children and adults.
Show day culminated in an evening dance in the marquees on the showfield.
