THE Consett Motor Club ran their President's cup trial on Saturday at a new venue on Oxenlaw Valley Farm, near Consett, attracting an entry of 69 riders.
The club laid out four courses for the various levels of ability and age. On the expert course, the win went to Mike Phillipson (Beta), who completed the four laps of 12 rocky sections without loss of marks.
On the clubmen's route, Martin Phillipson (Beta) took the win by just four marks from Ian Royal (Beta), while Scott Fenton won the schoolboys competition.
The easy course win went to David Royal (Sherco) for the loss of just two marks and in the TY80s Joe McMeekin completed the course for the loss of just seven marks.

Saturday also saw the start of the Northallerton Motor Club's annual three-day trial based as always on the Sun Inn, Bilsdale.
Three courses of four laps of ten sections on Saturday was followed by four laps of 12 sections on Sunday and Monday. A violent thunderstorm at the start of Saturday's run made conditions very slippery, but they improved as the trial progressed.
A new course on Sunday included some long rocky gullies, where Clive Dobson rode his 500 Norton well on the twisting downhill section, with a big right-hand swoop on adverse camber, to get away with a single dab.
Malcolm Cocking triumphed overall after two days on 40, from John Gaskell on a Triumph Tiger Cub on 41. By the end of Monday's ride Gaskell was on 50, as was Nick Willis on a Honda, with Cocking on 52.

The South Shields Motor Club had an entry of 51 for their cup trial at Embley Farm, Whitley Chapel, near Hexham on Sunday.
