The new season saw league membership reduced to 11 clubs following the resignation of Carmel FC before a ball had been kicked.
Archdeacon got their season off to a flying start with a 4-0 win against East End WMC. The Deacon absorbed all East End's pressure and counter attacked to great effect on several occasions and whilst East End failed to convert any of their chances Archdeacon's finishing was of a much higher order with goals from Tommy Wright, Michael Thraves, Anth Thorns and sub Tony Cater.
Albion were hopeful of putting a dent in Post Boy's efforts to retain the championship and swarmed all over their opponents from the outset. The Post Boy rear guard however stood firm and the visitors took the points with a goal in the last minute.
Former champions Newton Aycliffe and Grey Horse met at Moore Lane and with both sides only able to field nine men it was Grey Horse who took the first half honours to lead 2-0 at the interval courtesy of a brace from Darren Tate. However Aycliffe woke up after the interval to score three times without reply to take the points.
Hole In the Wall did manage to field 11 players and held their own in the first half hour before falling behind following a scramble at a corner. Shuttle and Loom took control in the second half increasing their lead to three before Matthew Collinson pulled one back from an outrageous angle. However Shuttle had by this time warmed to their task and added two more to take the points to 5-1. Shuttle's scorers were Warren Moncur (2), Paul Hutchinson, Terry Greenstreet and Jonathan Todd.
Grammar School Old Boys were another side to make a pleasing start to the season as they trounced DSRMSC (Reserves) 10-2. David Raine and Gary Hird were on target for the losers whilst Mark Sowerby (3) John Dixon and veteran Stuart Alderson were amongst Old Boys' scorers.
