The league suffered more than most with the weather, but Haughton were pleased that their game at Lands went ahead.
Haughton won by 35 runs to clinch promotion from Division B even though they totalled only 72 not out as Liddle claimed five wickets for ten runs and Dalton took three for 46. In reply the Lands batsmen found run making even more difficult and were shot out for just 37 as Gill captured five wickets for 14 runs and Docherty returned four for 17.
Only one other fixture in Division B was completed and fourth from top Dales enjoyed a six wickets victory over King James in another low scoring match.
King James were dismissed for 42 with Pratt taking six for 13 and Wallis two for seven for Dales, who secured the necessary runs even though they lost four wickets, two of them to Brack for 16 runs.
In Division A Middleton St George had 46 runs to spare at Witton-le-Wear who responded with 120 for eight in 35 overs after the visitors had made 167 for seven.
Willie Nelson hit 46 for Witton-le-Wear and in the Middleton attack none did better than David McKenna whose 16 overs included nine maidens. He captured three of the wickets for 30 runs.
Batting first the visitors were indebted to Paul Rogers who had one six and five boundaries in 45 and Steve Rogers who struck three sixes and as many fours top scoring with 47.
Willie Nelson, later to star with the bat for Witton-le-Wear, was their most productive bowler and in 18 overs he claimed three wickets for 64 runs. Both Jones and Penfold took two wickets each.
Barningham romped to a nine wickets victory in their home game with Aldbrough St John. Faced with a target of 109 they were given the perfect send off by openers Mossford, who contributed 54 before being run out and Newton with an unbeaten 36. At the end Newton partnered French in an unbroken second wicket stand.
When Aldbrough St John made first use of the wicket they ended with 108 on the board which included 39 by Oldhouse and for Barningham French had three for 19 and Mossford three for 31.
In the only other game completed Rockliffe Park inflicted a seven wickets defeat on Raby Castle who managed 44. Garbutt claimed five wickets for 24 runs and Howells had four for 15. Replying Rockliffe Park conceded three wickets but were never in danger and Krishnan made 26 before being run out.
