TENANTS of Scarborough Borough Council's 5,000 homes on the Yorkshire coast and the National Park, are being encouraged to accept a new landlord.
If they give the go-ahead in a ballot later this year, houses at Scarborough, Whitby and Filey and a number of villages, will be transferred to Yorkshire Coast Homes.
The move will result in a multi-million pound scheme of improvements being carried out which the council cannot afford.
An independent survey of the condition of the houses and flats in the borough has shown the council is £28m short of the cash needed to carry out all improvements and repairs needed in the next ten years.
