HOSPICE SHOP: St Cuthbert's Hospice in Park House Road, Merryoaks, Durham, is holding a Saturday Shop on September 7 between 10am and noon. Admission costs 50p and there will be a coffee morning and sale of clothing, books, jewellery and homemade produce.
LANGUAGE LESSONS: A course in conversational German starts at Chester-le-Street Community Centre on Friday afternoons from 1.30pm to 3.30pm from September 13. The cost will be £10 for a four-week block. To enrol call 0191-3884752.
VILLAGE WALK: Durham County Council rights of way officer Ian Armstrong will lead a seven-and-a-half-mile walk in the Quarrington Hill area tomorrow starting at 10.30am in the centre of the village. The walk costs £2 for adults, £1 concessions.
COMPUTER FAIR: A computer fair featuring a wide range of IT equipment will be held in the cafeteria at County Hall, Aykley Heads, Durham tomorrow between 10am and 3pm.
ART DISPLAY: An exhibition of work by the Beamish Art Group opens on Monday in the Durham Room of County Hall, Aykley Heads, Durham. It is open from 8am to 5pm and will run until Friday, September 13. Admission is free.
SHERBURN STROLL: Around Sherburn, an eight-mile walk, will be led by local historian Donald Miller on Sunday, starting at 11am at the crossroads in Sherburn Village. The walk costs £2, concessions £1.
GALA SHOW: Durham City Council is holding its annual horticultural show in the Gala Theatre on Saturday, September 14 between 2pm and 6pm and Sunday, September 15 from 10am to 5pm. Admission costs 50p including brochure for adults, but is free for children.
FLOWER DISPLAY: The Nevilles Cross Friends of Cancer Research UK will hold a flower demonstration on Wednesday, September 11 at the 5th Durham City Scout Group headquarters in the old Salvation Army building, Front Street, Langley Moor. Doors open at 7pm and tickets cost £3.50, including refreshments. They are available at the door.
