A LINE-up of alternative attractions will be taking the place of cattle, pigs, goats and sheep at Saturday's 94th Bilsdale Show because of restrictions still in place following the foot-and-mouth outbreak last year.
Organisers are hoping for a crowd of between 1,500 and 2,000 for the event, which is being held at Thornhill Farm, Chop Gate.
Bilsdale Silver Band, morris dancers, a gun dog display, bouncy castle, punch and judy, and demonstrations of birds of prey and a farrier will be among the entertainment, said chairman Ruby Garbutt.
This year's presidents are mother and son, Emily Long and Mark Bentley, whose company, J Wood and Son is famed for manufacturing the traditional Bilsdale Plough, at Fangdale Beck.
Two new trophies will be awarded this year - the Kelly Cup, for the best child rider under 12 in the pony classes, and another given by Mr and Mrs Chris Kitching in the fruit and vegetable section. A total of more than £1,000 will be given in prizes, said Mrs Garbutt.
