RUMOURS that a waste tip designed for noxious chemicals and asbestos will be constructed in Loftus, together with an animal carcass incinerator, have been denied by a council leader.
David Walsh, leader of Redcar and Cleveland Council, said a new recycling centre planned for the Deepdale area of the town would deal with simple household waste.
Mr Walsh said: "There is a lot of misinformation flying around and it needs to be stamped on."
He said that asbestos is disposed of at a site in Port Clarence, while animal carcasses are disposed of at Charltons.
Fridges, he said, are stored at the authority's Dunsdale site and noxious chemicals are disposed of through specialist operators outside the borough boundaries.
