HISTORIANS from across the world are to attend a North-East conference about the life of Captain Cook.
Among them will be Professor Andrew Lambert who is involved in the BBC2 programme The Ship, which recreates the explorer's journey to Australia.
The conference will be held at the University of Teesside, from Wednesday to Saturday, September 11 to 14.
Dr Sophie Forgan, history lecturer at the university, said: "The conference brings together new work on Captain Cook and examines his local region, the social and cultural background of his early years, together with fluctuations in his reputation and the varying ways he was been depicted in different countries.
"We are interested in the way that history may be explored more creatively, as in the current series, The Ship."
The total cost for the conference, open to anyone, is £85, with daily rates of £22 to £25. For more details, call Dr Forgan on (01642) 342364.
