IT was potato paradise for visitors to one of the region's top botanical attractions at the weekend, as the British dinner table's favourite vegetable was celebrated.
The Royal Horticultural Society's Harlow Carr Gardens, in Harrogate, staged a display of 22 varieties of potato, along with background information.
The range of traditional potatoes included the King Edward, which was saved by public demand in the 1970s when the EEC tried to ban it, and again in the 1980s when the new potato, Cara, threatened to overtake it.
Among the old-fashioned varieties were Shetland Black, Peachbloom, America and Skerry Blue.
