A TOWN travelled back in time to celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee year at the weekend.
A Queen and Country event, organised by English Heritage, was held in the grounds of Barnard Castle, in Teesdale, County Durham.
Royals, courtiers, soldiers and subjects all paid homage to the great Queens of England from throughout the ages.
Visitors saw re-enactments of scenes with Boudicca's fearsome Celtic warriors, Queen Victoria's lady-in-waiting and relived the street parties of 1952 and 1977.
There were also traditional crafts and fancy dress for all ages, which attracted local families and tourists from across the region.
Howard Wilson, head custodian of Barnard Castle, said: "It was a wonderful event, ideal for families because there was so much going on that everyone could find something to enjoy.
"It was fantastic to see the castle grounds brought to life with the costumes and acting which made learning history really great fun.
"It was also great to raise the profile of English Heritage and show off the area itself, which helps people appreciate what is here and boosts tourism."
