A COUPLE wed in the glamour of a 1950s rock 'n' roll ceremony on Saturday.

Slipping on his blue suede shoes and a Teddy Boy outfit, 37 year-old Michael Green was the image of his hero, Elvis Presley, as he exchanged vows with Wendy Love, 35.

Mother-of-five Wendy walked down the aisle in a 1950s-style dress, with music notes around the hem, at Northlands Methodist Church, in North Road, Darlington.

Her daughter Cheraliegh, nine, and niece Samantha Hilderth, ten, wore bridesmaid dresses with black and white polka dots.

Guests invited to the reception at Nestfield Club in Darlington, continued the rock 'n' roll theme into the evening.

The wedding cake was white with black notes, to match the bride's dress, and the guests jived to rock 'n' roll classics until the early hours.

The newly-weds left the following day to spend their honeymoon in Blackpool.

Before the wedding, Mr Green admitted he was looking forward to the dancing in the evening most of all: "Wendy never gets up to dance when a rock 'n' roll track comes on, but she will have to dance at the wedding. It will be like taking her for her first jive lesson."

Pictures of Elvis hang on the walls of the couple's house in Melland Street and Mr Green has been a dedicated fan of rock 'n' roll music and film since an early age.

Although Mrs Green was not a particular fan of 1950s music before she met her husband 18 months ago, the idea to have a rock 'n' roll theme at the wedding was hatched together.

She said: "We decided just to go for it and agreed to have the rock 'n' roll theme. We thought it would be different and fun."
