THE Wild West was recreated on Teesside at the weekend. This year's South Bank Carnival at Harcourt Playing Fields on Saturday featured lassooing, line-dancing, rope-spinning and a horseshoe corral. There was also the knife-throwing exploits of Todd Coady to admire - as visitor Steve Beckett, from Redcar, found out even if he did keep his eyes shut. Later in the day, a local band, The Beer Pigs, performed at Golden Boy Green, Normanby Road, to close the event. "The carnival always provides a great opportunity for the local community to get together and enjoy themselves," said organiser George Punshon. This year's carnival was funded by the Government's Single Regeneration Budget, the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund, Reeds Partnership and Guinness Trust.
