NORTHALLERTON Mayor Jack Dobson has praised young people who helped with last month's charity carnival.
Coun Dobson, carnival committee chairman, particularly singled out youngsters from the ATC who volunteered their services in a number of ways.
He revealed that an ATC team which won the It's A Knockout challenge at the event gave the prize to the Chopsticks charity, whose team came fourth.
Coun Dobson said: "As mayor I talk a lot about youth vandalism which undoubtedly exists and causes problems for the town.
"But there are some young people - such as the ATC members - who work unstintingly for the community and I am very proud of them."
Meanwhile, fundraising supergran Grace Wright is still counting the money she made from her swansong session at the carnival.
Mrs Wright, 88, who has run stalls at the carnival for more than 20 years, hopes the final figure will be about £400, which she is giving to the children's ward at the Friarage Hospital.
She had already announced that this year would be the last time she would man a stall and decided to bow out with a grand tombola of teddy bears, all donated by well-wishers.
"It was sad in a way as it was my last effort but I have been supergran for more than 20 years and it's time I took things easy."
