AUTUMN is traditionally the time when fillies hit top form and Brighton-bound Triplemoon (4.00) is no exception.

Triplemoon has taken time to get her act together, but as is so often the case once she was blessed with some much-needed sun on her back, improvement was not long in coming.

It was in July at Ascot that Triplemoon first gave notice of her relatively untapped potential when finishing third.

And it proved not to be a false dawn because last week the Peter Harris-trained three-year-old recorded her first ever success over Brighton's notoriously switchback track.

Having shown supreme dexterity to handle the awkward twists and turns it's no surprise to see connections returning to the well over the self-same course and distance for this afternoon's mile-and-a-half Joe Blanks Challenge Cup.

The predicted lightening fast underfoot conditions are almost identical to those encountered by Triplemoon six days ago, a factor which along with the booking of George Duffield, who is riding out of his skin at present, all add up to a welter of confidence behind the selection.

David Nicholls takes a few down to the Sussex coast from his North Yorkshire base and I reckon the pick of his raiding party is Speedy Gee (5.00) in the closing Alexander Catering Stakes.

The Nicholls' camp don't often leave the cash behind when the money is down and so when Speedy Gee was backed into 3-1 favourite at Catterick as recently as last Wednesday the bookmakers were running scared. Although traffic problems meant things didn't go Speedy Gee's way that day compensation now awaits the normally plucky gelding.

Jockey Oscar Urbina, in the wilderness over the past couple of seasons, has staged a great comeback this term booting home 31 winners at an impressive 18 per cent strike-rate.

Most of his heavy artillery has been supplied by James Fanshawe, responsible for Urbina's top mount of the day at Yarmouth, Cashmere (3.45).
