ALCOHOLIC Hamayn Jahan died after an all-day drinking binge.

The 41-year-old unemployed labourer had been taking a night time sedative, but had probably been too drunk to realise he had taken a fatal overdose, an inquest heard.

Deputy Teesside Coroner Gordon Hetherington said: "There is no indication to show he had intended to harm himself, although he appears to have been generally unhappy.

"Because of confusion caused by the alcohol he may well have taken more (pills) than he intended. I think the most likely conclusion was this was an unintentional result of what he did.''

Only the week before he died, Mr Jahan had been admitted to hospital suffering the effects of an overdose of drink and sleeping tablets, but had discharged himself the following day.

The inquest heard medical evidence that Mr Jahan, of Enfield Street, Middlesbrough, had " a long history of alcohol abuse.''

Mr Hetherington recorded a verdict of misadventure on the death of Mr Jahan.
