A SUPERMARKET chain yesterday unveiled its new-look store following a £1m revamp.
For the past six weeks staff at the Safeway store, in Durham's Milburngate shopping centre, have stayed after work to help with the refit.
Yesterday, the results were revealed, when shoppers were given the chance to sample new ranges of food and wine.
A salad bar and hot food counters selling soup, pizza slices and ready meals, have been added.
The addition of the food counters also created 20 jobs.
An entertainment section, selling everything from wide-screen televisions to DVDs, has been added, while the wine section has been expanded by almost a third.
The store's deputy manager, Steve Richards, said: "Because we're in the city centre, a lot of people come in here on their dinner hour to pick up a few things, so we've tried to make things as easy as possible for them."
