A COMPOSER from Skinningfield has written a piece of music after being inspired by the discovery of a new planet.

The piece, written by Geoffrey Palmer, was inspired by the recent discovery of the planet Mu Ara, and will receive its world premiere at St Mary's RC Cathedral, Coulby Newham, near Middlesbrough, tonight. It will be performed by the Tees Valley Youth Orchestra for whom it was specially written, designed to showcase the talents of the young musicians.

CHOIR CONCERT: A musical evening with Hartlepool Male Voice Choir will take place on Monday, September 16, at St Mary Magdalene Church, Whitehouse Road, Billingham. Tickets for the event, which starts at 7.30pm, are available at the door priced £3.50.

GUILD MEETING: A talk on local government housing management will be given at the next meeting of Acklam Townswomen's Guild in Middlesbrough, on Tuesday. The group meets at 2pm at the Friends' Meeting House in Cambridge Road.

ART EXHIBITION: An exhibition inspired by the industrial heritage of Saltburn will be held at the town's art gallery, in Marske Road, from Saturday until September 20. The show, featuring work by Belfast-based artist Fiona Ni Mhaoilir, is open from noon until 4pm from Wednesday to Sunday.

ADULT EDUCATION: Places are still available on part-time courses starting this month at Nunthorpe School in Middlesbrough. Enrolment sessions will take place at the school on Monday and Tuesday between 6.30pm and 8pm, and on Thursday and Friday between 10am and noon.

CITIZENS ADVICE: Middlesbrough Citizens Advice Bureau dealt with inquiries from 21,290 people last year, ranging from employment problems to neighbour disputes. The bureau's annual report, published this week, also shows it achieved more than £2m in awards for its clients The service is looking for volunteers to become advice workers. COFFEE MORNING: A coffee morning in aid of Saltburn Animal Rescue Association will take place on Saturday, at Sunnyfield House, Guisborough, from 9.30am to 1pm. There will be a variety of stalls, including cakes, a tombola and bric-a-brac.
