Killingworth triple strike sinks Masons.
In the Premier Division the Kilingworth Arms defeated the Masons Arms 3-0 away. The Pirates who are missing the influence of Capt Flint have now lost both their opening games and have yet to reveal the form which saw them gain promotion. Kilingworth quickly adapted to the blustery conditions and took the lead after 15 minutes when Michael Meaney shot home in a goalmouth melee. Shortly before the interval new signing Mick Haley scored on his debut to put them 2-0 up. The restart saw Killingworth still controlling the game and a goal from Martin Henderson more or less settled the issue 3-0.
Billingham Wanderers showed just how good they are by defeating Ferryhill Greyhound 4-1 away. They took the lead when Jed Forrest put Keith Corner through to go on and cleverly slip the keeper but the Greyhound fought back to draw level. Close on the interval Charlie Bell restored Billingham's lead when he scored deceiving the keeper with as 20-yards curling shot. Immediately after the restart a fine solo effort from Keith Aldridge made it 3-1 and finally new signing Bobby Hatfield made it 4-1 scoring with a brilliant driving leader from a cross from Bobby Scaife.
In Division One Newton Aycliffe lost 1-0 away to Wallsend RAOB. Wallsend took the lead after ten minutes and despite all Aycliffe's efforts it was enough to win the match. The game was a story of missed chances by both sides. Aycliffe's outstanding player was Stuart Howson who worked tirelessly but to no avail.
The Rams Head lost 3-1 away to Wearmouth. The Rams were the first to score but failed to consolidate their lead. Ian Rutherford levelling for Weamouth close on half time. The restart saw Wearmouth slowly gain the upper hand, further goals from Ed Brown and John Thubron settled the issue.
Darlington Croft drew 2-2 away to the Willow Pond in a very close and exciting game. Colin Turnbull put the Pond 1-0 up only for Kevin McStravich to quickly level. Paul Maitland score to give the visitors a 2-1 lead only for Rueben Gibson to grab a late equaliser for the Willow Pond.
In Division Two Barnard Castle Glaxo drew 1-1 against Gateshead's Ex-Servicemen. The Castle took the lead after 20 minutes when Graham Hammond put Kevin Hodgson in the clear to beat the keeper and score.
From then on it was end to end football with chances missed by both sides although Geoff White was most unlucky when he shot under with only the keeper to beat, the ball grazing the post. With five minutes left Gateshead levelled with a spot kick. Star of the game was the evergreen veteran Dave Bowes for the Castle.
Consett cane back to form defeating Moor House 4-0 at home.
In Division Three Billingham Town drew 2-2 to Darsley Park in an exciting match. Billingham were the first to score but the Park levelled through Mark Shearer just on half time. After the restart they took the lead courtesy of Chris Gillies only for the visitors to gain the equaliser ten minutes from time.
Wynyard Vets now lead the Division they won 4-1 at home to Steels FC. they led 2-0 at the break through goals from Eric Young and Freddy Serplus. After the restart Pat Boagie made it 3-0 but Steels pulled one back with the penalty. Billy Rogers made it 4-1 to clinch the game for the Veterans.
In Division Four Wynyard Old Boys lost 3-0 away to the Toll Bar. the Old Boys once again played well but the younger side just had that extra pace which told in the long run. However, the Vets are still much better than the score suggests and time should see them develop into a stronger side.
Crook Town showed their prowess by winning 3-2 away to Houghton Swifts.
