POLICE are giving away free property marking kits tomorrow in an attempt to further bring down the number of house burglaries in west Redcar, which have already dropped by 25 per cent.
Redcar Community Safety Partnership, made up of the police, council and residents' groups, has 54 kits to give away.
The people of the Coatham, Newcomen, Kirkleatham or Dormanstown wards of Redcar are permitted to apply. Residents need to bring proof of their address to qualify.
Cleveland Police will be at Kiosk No 2, Redcar High Street, from 10am to 2pm.
The give-away follows an earlier project in Coatham and Kirkleatham earlier this year, when more than 100 residents who had suffered a burglary received a house alarm and 50 other households were offered security lighting.
The project combined with police work helped the number of house burglaries to drop by 25 per cent.
Chief Superintendent John Kelly said: "Reducing the value of goods stolen is a valuable tool in the fight against burglary and by marking property 54 residents can reduce their risk of becoming a victim."
