Bishop Auckland manager Alan Shoulder admits that some of his players "under-performed" at Guiseley on Monday when Bishops suffered their worst defeat in 33 years with a 7-0 reverse.
"We did well for the first 20 minutes, but then it all went wrong," said Shoulder.
"A lot of lads under-performed, and it looks as if playing at this level might have caught up with one or two. It didn't help having three centre halves missing, and hopefully some players will be back for Saturday's game at Ossett Town."
Spennymoor, meanwhile, finally started their First Division campaign with a 1-0 home win over Kendal, Andrew Shaw scoring in the second half.
Moors have signed Michael Heckley, the son of former Shildon player Mel Heckley, from Washington Nissan.
Manager Tony Lee said: "He was a junior at Bishop Auckland when I was there. He's a good strong lad who will get better."
Whitby manager Harry Dunn will be in plaster for at least two months.
Dunn has severed his Achilles tendon after an accident at home. "I was going downstairs, and I slipped off the bottom step," he said. "It's the worst injury I've ever had, even when I was playing."
John Gibson has resigned as chairman of Gateshead. "I feel that it is an appropriate time to stand down." he said.
