On Wednesday Whitehill FC played Sporting Club Sunderland at home, losing 2-0.
In the first half they had the run of the play but unable to finish off the chances created. In the first half, Michael Pitt hit the keeper from five yards out. He also rounded the keeper to see his shot headed off the line by a defender. Kevin Coats and Ian Corner both only had the keeper to beat but found he also was in form with two fine saves.
In the second half their luck was still out when Michael Pitt again hit the woodwork. After that Sporting Club got their game together hitting two goals in 53 and 72 minutes by Barry Cook and John Cairns. Whitehill's luck was still missing with John O'Brien hitting the post in 89 minutes.
This win increased Sporting Club's lead to four points above Belford House who moved up to second place with a convincing 5-1 win at home to Ebchester FC. Stuart Burton, Kenny Taylor, Ian McDowell, John Holborn and Michael Agnew getting the goals. Chris Parkin replied for Ebchester.
Hartlepool Town went down 1-0 at home to Shildon Railway. Both teams kept things tight in defence up to 60 minutes, until Chris Rye, for Shildon got half a chance to get the only goal.
Springwell Village earned themselves their first point of the season in seven attempts, lifting them off the bottom of the table. They drew 2-2 at home to Seaham Mallard, Mark Kirtley put them ahead in 13 minutes. Barry Cougle equalised in 28. David Hills had Springwell in the lead again in 65 minutes before Lee Cuthberts squared it for the Mallard.
Kenny Melvin and Lee Pratt scored two goal each to give Durham Victoria Bridge a home 4-1 win against Simonside SC.
Seaham The Duke hit Garden Farm Real with a 5-0 win at home, they could have had many more if it had not been for Wayne Mathews in goal for the opposition keeping the score down. Dave Brown hit two for The Duke. Ian Bell got another two - his first for the club - with Michael Appleby adding to the tally.
Cockfield, still unbeaten in the league found it hard to break down Brandon Station's defence in a 0-0 draw. With both teams unable to create a decent chance.
