A TEAM from the Durham and Teesside Group of Endurance GB were recently placed third in the Team Spirit at the Festival of Endurance Riding held at Market Rasen.

The Team Spirit is a relay race for teams of four, each completing a loop of 40km. Each horse must pass a veterinary inspection before they start and the clock keeps running on completion of their loop until the final horse is vetted.

The team comprised John Jamieson riding Dandy, Sue Gamble on the Golly Ollybird, Alison Wanless riding Warrens Hill Quelanza and Les Sparks on Magic's Minstrel.

They were aided by the hard-working crews whose job is to meet the horses and riders at set points on the route to cool the horses and ensure all is going to plan.

The Durham and Teesside crews were made up of Sylvia Briggs, Trevor Clarke and Agneta Pallinder. The team manager was Andrea Waistell.

The group hopes to send a team again next year and anyone who would like to know more about the sport can contact Endurance GB at Stoneleigh or through their website
