A MAN appeared in court yesterday charged with drugs offences after being arrested at his Harrogate flat.

Andrew Mark Stevens, 22, was remanded in custody until September 17, following a raid on his home in East Parade, Harrogate, on Saturday. Mr Stevens was accused of joint possession of 64 ecstasy tablets with intent to supply them to others. He was also jointly charged with possession of an unspecified amount of cannabis resin with intent to supply it to others.

LIFEBOAT BOOST: A coffee morning held at Borrowby raised £420 for the Thirsk branch of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. A sale of Christmas cards in aid of the charity will be staged at the Golden Fleece, Thirsk, on Monday, October 9.

COFFEE INVITE: A coffee morning in aid of the Children's Society will be held in Northallerton Town Hall, on Saturday, from 9.30am to 12.30pm.

FARMERS' MEETING: Vale of York MP Anne McIntosh is holding a meeting for farmers in her constituency on Thursday, at 4pm, at The Three Tuns Hotel, Thirsk.

FAIR DATE: Northallerton Rotary Club is holding its autumn fair in the Town Hall on Saturday, September 21, from 9am to 1pm. Several local charities will have stalls at the event and everyone is welcome to attend.

DANCING CLASSES: Northallerton Caledonian Society starts its new season of Scottish country dancing classes on Thursday, at 7.30pm, in the Town Hall. Children's classes start the following Thursday, at 6.15pm. Admission is 50p.
