POLICE have arrested a man following a road accident at the weekend.
A 44-year-old woman is still critically ill in hospital after being involved in a collision with a white Peugeot 205 in Greenfield Way, Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, on Friday night. She suffered serious injuries and was taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital, where her condition was described as critical, but stable. Police confirmed that a 19-year-old man was arrested and questioned following the incident. A spokesman said: "I can confirm than a man has been arrested at the weekend. He was questioned and released on police bail, pending further inquiries."
THREE REMANDED: A young man has made his first appearance at Crown Court charged with the murder of an Iranian asylum seeker. Peiman Bahamani, 29, was stabbed to death in Peel Street, Sunderland, on August 28. Steven Roberts, 18, of Morvenside, Edinburgh, appeared at Newcastle yesterday charged with his murder, as well as charges of racially-aggravated assault and violent disorder. Gavin Gash, 27, of Hedworth Court, Sunderland, and Joseph Rutherford, 22, of Gray Street, Sunderland, were also charged with racially-aggravated assault and violent disorder relating to the same incident. All three were remanded in custody until December 16.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: A service of thanksgiving and rededication to commemorate the 62nd anniversary of the Battle of Britain will be held in York Minster on Sunday, at 11.45am. Standards will be borne and paraded by the Royal Air Force Association, the Aircrew Association, the Air Gunners' Association, 20 Group Royal Observer Corps Association, and 110 City of York Air Training Corps Squadron.
BODY FOUND: The body of a man was found in undergrowth at a castle on Friday. A female member of the public found the body at 9am by the dykes at Scarborough Castle. It is believed to be that of a 38-year-old man. A spokesman for North Yorkshire police said they had yet to identify the body, although there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

TIME TEAM: An update on the work of the television programme Time Team, which uncovered a Roman settlement near Sedgefield, County Durham, will be given at a public meeting in Sedgefield Parish Hall tonight at 7.15pm. There will also be a progress report on restoration plans for Hardwick Country Park.
JUBILEE TRIBUTE: Resi-dents of Harrogate, North Yorkshire, have voted overwhelmingly to name the town's new multi-storey car park the Jubilee car park, as a tribute to the Queen's anniversary celebrations.
