A NEW school is set to be created after no-one objected to plans to merge three existing sites.
A two-month formal consultation period announced by Darlington Borough Council into plans to merge Corporation Road nursery, infant and junior schools has just finished.
At a meeting next Monday, the council's School Organisation Committee will hear that no objections were received to the idea of creating one primary school.
The governing bodies of the infants and junior schools wrote to back the scheme and full details will be sent to the Secretary of State for Education for approval.
If the scheme gets the final go-ahead the new school would be made up of the existing three buildings on Corporation Road with some minor alterations.
The school would be called Corporation Primary School.
A second consultation into changes at Alderman Leach Primary School, in Darlington, also ended with no objections. The council plans to reduce places at the school from 75 to 45 by 2004 and to open a 26 place nursery.
